Professor Kim Ki-hyun's research team succeeded in developing a lightweight technology for action cameras
- 30 billion market was created with "waterproofing and bonding technology for heterogeneous materials"
Our university announced that Kim Ki-hyun, a professor of Mechatronics engineering, and Plastal (CEO Hong Sung-ho), who are conducting research at the Gyeonggi Regional Cooperation Research Center (GRRC), have developed a "waterproofing technology for heterogeneous materials" to reduce the weight of action cameras.
Professor Kim Ki-hyun's research team met the performance of IPX7 or higher in waterproofing through special surface treatment with a matching strength of 40 Mpa or higher and a waterproof performance of IPX7 or higher. The joint strength of 40 Mpa or more is the lowest design strength level of high-strength concrete, and the IPX7 waterproof grade means the waterproof performance from 15 cm to 1 m deep. The characteristic of this technology is that after a bonding atmosphere with plastic is made through a special surface treatment of metal, the plastic is waterproof-bonded through a special injection, and a separate bonding medium is not used.

Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Regional Cooperation Research Center (GRRC) project is an industry-academic cooperation model in which Gyeonggi Province connects universities, research institutes, and SMEs in the province to support technology development activities. It aims to revitalize the local economy by improving the technological competitiveness of related industries, and 10 centers, including the Korea Development University, are conducting research and development
